At first, I thought she was just going to be an airheaded, bumbling, yet entertaining sidekick to Keith Flick. Lily is the kind of character you watch an anime for. One in particular is a gift to anime, and it saddens me more people don’t talk about her: Lily Hoshina. The other relevant female characters are handled much better. There’s supposed to be this deep love between the two that can triumph over fate itself, but all I can actually tell you with 100% certainty about Yuna is she has pink hair. I’m mainly referring to Yuna, the girl Koku has been trying to find. This results in some things just popping up out of nowhere and certain characters who really needed better characterization getting a bit shafted. Sure, all hail subplots and whatnot, but those are all main plots constantly vying for attention throughout the show’s 12 episodes. So, as you can probably tell, B: The Beginning can get a bit…scatterbrained. The two plots regularly intertwine, but for the most part, B has a super-powered battle plot and a murder mystery plot going on at the same time…and they’re both part of a government conspiracy plot. Keith actually uses his return to the RIS to continue delving into the mystery of his sister’s murder. See, Koku/Killer B is actually some dude with powers (wings, sword hand, etc.), and he’s been killing bad guys in order to exact his own revenge and find a certain someone. The Killer B cases are just the lead-in to the main plot(s). I’m going to go ahead and spoil this for you all: We find out who Killer B is in the first episode, and it’s quickly evident he’s one of the main protagonists. Well, it isn’t exclusively a mystery show. But, uh…this isn’t exactly a mystery show. I decided to check out B: The Beginning since I was really craving a mystery show, and I put Miss Fisher’s Murder Mysteries on hold when I started the Summer of Anime. Keith and Killer B aren’t exactly playing a game of cat and mouse, however, as the super-powered organization Market Maker is working in the shadows to fulfill their own twisted prophecy. But, Keith is a haunted man whose sister was maimed and killed years ago, driving him a little mad and sending him into solitude. Thanks to this, retired(-ish) detective Keith Flick is brought back into the Royal Investigation Service in order to stop the rash of killings plaguing Cremona. He’s the good kind of killer, though, as he only kills the other merciless murderers. One such killer has been active for five years and is known as Killer B, thanks to the mark he leaves at each crime scene. No one tell them “A” is actually the beginning.įor being such a small nation, the kingdom of Cremona has seen its fair share of brutal and relentless serial killers in the past few years.
