![]() ![]() Nonetheless, I can make it work using Airplay by ignoring all three status messages and coming off my Wi-Fi network and joining the Airport Express network. I have set it up in what seems to be a standalone Wi-Fi network with no internet connection (the amber light keeps flashing) and there are three status messages shown in Airport Utility (Ethernet unplugged, no internet connection and no DNS server). I want to use it wirelessly if possible so I don’t have to lay an Ethernet extension cable. ![]() Still it did download the latest firmware. But I couldn’t get it to join the network (amber light flashing). I’m having trouble setting up the AirPort Express to link with my BT Smart Hub? I’ve updated the firmware by temporarily plugging it in via an Ethernet cable to my BT Smart Hub. I can, but only in what seems to be a standalone network. ![]() I have connected an old B&O speaker to my Apple AirPort Express using the audio socket in the hope that I can use Airplay to stream to the speaker. (In order to reconfigure the router I performed a hard reset in order to tell it to join the new network.)(Edit: I can ping the Express even after it is no longer visible on AirPort Utility or selectable via iTunes.) 1903 3Ĭan I connect my AirPort Express to my BT Smart Hub wirelessly? Hello. Same behavior. It's not lost on me that 5 minutes is also the period of time after a reset where access control is deactivated, as described in this article: How to reset your AirPort base station - Apple Support. If I cycle the power to the Express I'll get the same behavior - visible for roughly 5 minutes, then gone - but the music continues to play.As an experiment I reset the Express to join the router's 2.4Ghz network. Then it "disappears" - but if I'm streaming music to the Express, it will continue to play for as much as a few hours before the stream drops. For approximately 5 minutes it is visible as an AirPlay target and visible to AirPort Utility. Everything in the network is working fine - except my AirPort Express.I reset my Express to join the new router's 5Ghz network. AirPort Express "disappears" after 5 minutes For years I've been streaming music to my stereo via an AirPort Express with fair success (frequent dropouts, sync issues, etc.)I've just replaced my AirPort Extreme base station with a state-of-the-art Linksys wifi router now that I've added satellite Sonos speakers and needed better speeds/range. ![]()
